Why do 5kg/10lb bumper plates get cracked in work outs so easily? Aug 15, 2016

5kg is the thinnest plate among the types of rubber bumper plates(26mm/standard training bumper, 34mm/crumb bumper). A 5kg bumper plate is always the first plate to end up in the trash due to warping or steel inserts popping out. The fact is that those thinner, 10LB/5kg rubber weight plates are never meet to be loaded onto a barbell all by themselves and then dropped from an overhead position.

Hi-temp makes some 5kg/10LB the best, but even their 10LB bumper plates cannot take being dropped along on the bar time and time again. Even though we tried to increase the service life of these small bumper plates by altering the thickness of the edge, or hardening the hardness of the thin rubber bumper plates, they still could not keep them away from the damage if players continue to drop them alone on a bar. No matter what brand or design innovations are on the market.

So if you practice weightlifting, please try to load 5kg or 10LB together with some heavier weights. Do not let 5kg or 10lb bumper plate be used alone. Once you drop them from overhead so often, they will get damaged.
